NagaWorld celebrates “very positive” reopening

NagaCorp chairman Tim McNally reported there was a “very positive public response” to the reopening of the company’s flagship property in Phnom Penh.

Operations at NagaWorld resumed on 8 July, after casinos in Cambodia were ordered to temporarily close at the start of April as part of measures to combat COVID-19. “We had a very good opening and anticipate increased visitation,” McNally stated.

The operator has introduced a range of safety and social distancing measures. All employees and visitors arriving at NagaWorld will need to undergo a body-temperature check before being allowed entry and will have to wear a face mask, the Hong Kong-listed firm said in a filing prior to reopening.

Casino customers at NagaWorld are additionally “required to wear a mask during their play,” while there is a limit of “three sitting players per table”.

McNally highlighted that NagaCorp’s founder and CEO Chen Lip Keong is a “medical doctor” and consequently “intends Naga to set the bar high for the private sector in terms of best practices”.

In late June, prime minister Hun Sen confirmed casinos across the country would be allowed to resume operations provided they met the government’s health requirements.
