Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Fines State Casinos $73K

Two casino companies and a gaming business were penalized last week by Pennsylvania regulators for violations. The total fines amounted to $73,075.

One company, Stadium Casino Westmoreland RE, operator of Live! Casino Pittsburgh, located in Hempfield Township, Pa., received two fines totaling $30K.

One fine was for $20K. It came after two women visitors improperly were allowed to gamble. They shouldn’t have been permitted on the casino floor because they were on the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s (PGCB) self-exclusion list.

One woman was on the casino floor for more than seven hours before she was spotted and removed on February 20, according to TribLive.com, a regional news outlet.

The other woman was on the casino floor for about five minutes on March 11, 2022. She too was removed.

Also, a $10K fine was levied after a 20-year-old man played a slot machine at the same casino for about seven minutes on November 12.

The underage player initially wasn’t noticed by a casino security guard. That’s because another person at the same time tried to enter the casino floor without stopping at a checkpoint. That distracted the guard.

Soon, the underage player was detected. He and other visitors who arrived concurrently were ordered off the gaming floor. None appeared fluent in English.

The fines were announced last Wednesday after regulators and the casino company reached consent agreements.

The PGCB also ordered the casino to pay $5K due to staff work related to the incidents.

Violations Are Serious

The casino recognized the severity of the violations.

“Live! Casino understands the seriousness of both compulsive and underage gambling,” casino general manager Sean Sullivan said in a statement to TribLive.com.

These self-reported incidents represent a rare occurrence at our facility. We continually implement ongoing training and review our security procedures to ensure we’re providing a safe and entertaining experience for our guests.”

“Underage (gambling) is the thing we fine casinos for more than anything else,” PGCB spokesperson Richard McGarvey further told LiveTrib.com.

Since 2007, the PGCB has levied a total of $3.6 million in fines for underage gambling at Pennsylvania gaming properties.

Additional Fines

In addition, Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores was fined $25K last week. The company failed to notify the PGCB about unspecified changes at its five video gaming terminal sites.

Also, Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment, Inc., which operates Parx Casino, was fined $18,075.

The reason for that penalty was that it didn’t file two license renewals by the required time.
